Behavior after surgical tooth removal
Food
- You should not eat anything as long as the local anesthetic can be felt in your mouth. If possible, do not eat food that is too hot, cold or hard.
- Try to eat only liquid to soft food for the first 1-2 days
Post-bleeding
- Bite firmly on the gauze swab for half an hour. In case of postoperative bleeding, place a swab that you have received from us on the wound and bite on it with pressure for half an hour. The blood should not be constantly spat out.
- Heat in any form such as sunbathing, sauna visits or hot baths should be avoided for the first two days. Swelling and secondary bleeding may occur.
- Heavy physical activity, including sport, should be avoided. There is no reason to report sick if you work without heavy physical exertion.
- Do not consume alcohol or strong coffee in the first six hours. Do not consume nicotine in the first 24 hours, as this increases the risk of post-operative bleeding, pain and weakens the immune system.
Swelling
- The onset of swelling should be alleviated with the cold pack you have received. Cool with breaks. Slight swelling and a hematoma (blue/yellow spot) are normal.
Pain
- A slight soreness is normal. Take the painkillers provided by us. If the pain persists or even intensifies after two days, please contact us.
Oral hygiene
- Do not touch the extraction wound with your fingers or bite your lip or cheek (often observed in children).
- You should brush your teeth as normal, but avoid the wound itself for three to four days. The mouthwash will compensate for this.
